Family and Early Life of Alia Bhatt  

On March 15, 1993, Alia Bhatt was born in Mumbai. Her parents are the famous filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and his British wife Soni Razdan. Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt are her half-siblings.   Her maternal cousins are director Mohit Suri and actor Emraan Hashmi. She completed her schooling from Jamnabai Narsee School. Her first acting role was in 1999 in the film Sangharsh as a child actress. 

 

Professional Career of Alia Bhatt

The first major film of Alia Bhatt was ‘Student of the Year’(2012) directed by Karan Johar. Her character in this film was compared to the teenage role of Kareena Kapoor in ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gaum’. Her role was critically acclaimed and was her acting was praised by many critics. This film gave her the award of Best Female Debut Award. This film made about US$13 million at Box Office. After this film, she bagged other films from reputed directors. In 2014, she started in ‘Highway’, opposing Randeep Hooda. This performance gave her the award of Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress.

Later she bagged a film which was the joint production of Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala titled ‘2 States’. This film was the adaption of the novel by Chetan Bhagat by the same name. This film was regarded as one of the best performances of Alia Bhatt.

The acting of Alia Bhatt was termed as “easy, fresh and natural” by many critics.  This movie earned over US$24 million worldwide. Her final release in 2014 was ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’. This film was also successful at the Box Office, earning over UD$14 million. The successful year in 2014 made her an established actress in Bollywood. Her next two films in 2015, Shaandar and Mumbai Mirror were not very successful in the Box Office. 

In 2016, she played a role in the film ‘Kapoor & Sons’ of a lively girl. This film was both commercially and critically successful. Her role in of poor girl in ‘Udta Punjab’ (2016) was praised by many critics. This movie gave her first Filmfare Best Actress Award in 2017. Her film ‘Dear Zindagi’ was considered commercially successful.

Her first big success came in 2017. ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ (2017) with Varun Dhawan was her biggest grossed film released. For this film, she received a nomination of Best Actress in Filmfare Awards. Her film ‘Raazi’ (2018) was also commercially successful. In this film, she played the role of an Indian spy. This film made Alia Bhatt a successful contemporary actress in Bollywood. Her most recent film ‘Gully Boy’ (2019) was released. Till now this film has done very well in Box Office. Her next two releases are ‘Kalank’ with Varun Dhawan and ‘Brahmastra’ with Ranbir Kapoor are in the near future.

Main Reason behind Her Success

The main reasons behind her success in the mainstream media were due to her hard work and dedication to her films. For her every film she tries her level best to perform and give a good performance.

For example, for ‘2 States’, she took Tamil classes for performing better in the film and for her poverty-stricken Bihari character in ‘Udta Punjab’, she watched many documentaries related to drug abuse and learned how to speak Bihari dialect. Another reason for her huge success is her bold choices like Udta Punjab, Highway, and Dear Zindagi. She always accepts any challenging roles which are avoided by new actress and these challenging roles give her an edge in the competitive market of Bollywood. She also knows how to balance her film choices.

On one hand, she performs for a short budget film like Udta Punjab and on another hand, she takes a role in big-budget films like Shaandar. Her versatility is also one major factor for her success in the mainstream media. She takes on various kinds of roles, this improves her quality and increases her experience as a celebrity. This quality along with her fantastic acting quality gives her success in Bollywood.

Other than professional acting, she has also tried her hand in singing as well. She sang “Sooha Saaha” in Highway. For this song, she underwent special training for singing. After this, she sang a few songs for her other films. She performed on stage in various Award Shows like Filmfare, Stardust and Screen Awards. 

 

Campaign and Marketing

In 2013, she attended a Charity Show for raising fund for flood victims in Uttarakhand. She also took part in a campaign for PETA to raise awareness for homeless animals. In 2014, she launched an initiative named CoExist and in 2015 she participated in a live Facebook campaign named Find Your Green. She also regularly appears in commercial films. She also has an immense presence in other commercial media forms like in print ads or billboards ads. Alia Bhatt also has her presence in web videos.

In 2014, she launched her own clothing brand for women for online fashion portal Jabong. Then in the year 2018, she launched her own handbag line. She also actively endorse for a number of brands like Garnier, Frooti, Coca-Cola, Garnier, and Maybelline.

Her name appeared in the list of Forbes Asia for 30 Under 30 list in 2017. She was placed 18th in the 2018 Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list. In 2018, she became the second highest paid actress in India.’

Alia Bhatt is already an established actress. Her versatility and hard work have been recognized by the general masses of India. She has a huge fan following in India. Many directors started to consider her as a sure shot formula for a successful Box Office film. Alia Bhatt is considered to be the next Bollywood Queen.
