Shri Mahila Griha Udyug is an all women run and managed co-operative organization with 62 branches all over India. It employs a little over 45k women and has been hailed as one of the great rags to riches stories of contemporary India. It all began way back in March 15th 1959 as a united papad making effort by seven women from the terrace of Lohana Niwas in Girgaum, a thickly populated South Bombay suburb.
